Ranks

Each SeeD has a Rank, ranging from 1-30. This rank represents the capability, effectiveness, efficiency, and reliability in service to Garden and performance on missions and assigned duties, and determines both the difficulty of missions they may be assigned to and their salary.

Rank decreases over time if the SeeD is not active on missions or in training. A SeeD must regularly engage in combat training or take a written examination to maintain their ranking at its current level. For game purposes, each character is assumed to do the necessary combat or testing behind the scenes; playing them out is not necessary.

Beyond this, rank only changes when the SeeD demonstrates great competence and capability – or a great lack of either. A SeeD who performs exceptionally well in a mission may be granted an increase in ranking, whereas one that conducts a gunblade combat demonstration in the second-story hallway is likely to find themselves penalized.

Special A Class Rank

Above rank 30 is A rank, the highest ranking a SeeD can receive. This SeeD has proved themselves to be top-tier, elite, the absolute best Garden has to offer. A SeeD cannot advance to this rank simply by mission success and a clean record; only special consideration by the Commander and the Headmaster can award this rank.

Missions

Missions come in three varieties: Training, Standard and Special.

Standard missions appear on this page, organized by rank. They may be undertaken at any time and require little to no mod input – the players who sign up for the mission are free to conduct battles, events, and NPCing for these within the bounds of common sense.

Missions must be undertaken in groups of 2-4 SeeDs. A group cannot accept a mission ranked higher than the highest-ranking SeeD in the group, and may be subject to Rank penalty if the mission rank is lower than the lowest-ranking SeeD in the group. Presuming the mission is completed successfully, all SeeDs receive the stated completion reward.

Training missions are for Cadets only, although some do require SeeD accompaniment. They are specifically intended to provide relatively little danger, and a cadet may only obtain the reward for them once (though they may continue to accept the mission in groups without penalty). If a SeeD accompanies the group, they must not participate in fights unless there is only one cadet present, or the group is in serious danger. In all other respects they resemble Standard missions.

Special missions are periodically announced by the Commander, and open to any SeeD who meets their requirements. The Commander will make the final determination as to the team makeup. These missions are run by the mod staff, and completing one successfully awards a rank increase for the SeeD in question.


Player Missions

Player missions are missions requested by player characters. The player characters set the objectives and provide the reward, and the player of that character assumes responsibility for NPCing and running the mission in whatever aspects are necessary.

A player mission may be either Special, in which case it will be announced in the manner of a normal Special mission, or it may be a Standard or Training mission, in which case it will be listed here under Player missions.

Suggesting Missions

If you wish to suggest a mission or Player mission, simply send a message to the mod account with the name, location, objective, reward, and any special notes for the mission. If it is a standard mission, please note if you would like to retain responsibility for running the mission or if you would like it to be treated as a normal standard mission.

Training Missions


Whack-a-Grat
  • Location: Training Center
  • Objective: Defeat 10 grats in one visit to the Training Center.
  • Reward: 2 potions and 2 stock of Cure magic.


CARDIFICATE
  • Location: Training Center or Outside Garden
  • Objective: Use GF Quezacoatl’s Card ability to transform 10 weakened enemies into cards
  • Reward: A leather belt case suitable for a Triple Triad deck.


Weapon Upgrade
  • Location: Balamb Town Junk Shop
  • Objective: Obtain the items necessary to upgrade your weapon to its next level, then obtain your upgrade from the Junk Shop.
  • Reward: A sheath, holster, or case for your weapon.


Get the Car Keys
  • Location: Defensive Driving Classroom
  • Objective: “Borrow” the keys to a Garden van without being observed by the staff. (Yes, they know of this mission and leave the keys somewhere a student can reach, if they are careful. Don’t actually steal the van.)
  • Reward: Permission to drive the van to Balamb and enough money for a good dinner there.


Visitor Tour
  • Location: Balamb Garden
  • Objective: A visitor needs a tour of Garden. Show them around and make sure they have a favorable impression by the time they leave.
  • Reward: 250G. (If the visitor is horrified by talking ponies or harassed by trolls or has to deal with snarky chameleons and you still manage to get them to leave with a positive impression, 500G.)


Financial Audit
  • Location: Garden offices
  • Objective: Go through the latest fundraiser records for the GFC and check their numbers.
  • Reward: A high-capacity external drive for your laptop.


Draw and Refine
  • Location: Balamb Garden
  • Objective: Draw 5 Cures from any source, then refine them into a Cura.
  • Reward: 5 Cure, 5 Fire, 5 Blizzard, 5 Thunder paramagic stocks.


Optional Exam of DOOOOOOOM
  • Location: Balamb Garden classrooms
  • Objective: This team test covers the basics from almost every compulsory class in the catalog! You’re going to need to study long and hard to pass!
  • Reward: A comprehensive encyclopedia set and your names on a plaque.


Sub-Basement Patrol and Repair
  • Location: Balamb Sub-Basement 1
  • Objective: Possibly lured in by the kitchen and Home Ec classroom someone put down there, insectoid and rodentlike monsters have crept into the lower floors of Garden! Exterminate at least 10, then inspect and maintain the machinery.
  • Reward: A set of engineering tools and parts – good for weapon upgrading!


Night Manager for a Day Night
  • Location: Balamb Town Harbor
  • Objective: By special agreement with the Harbor Manager, a group of cadets will be permitted to act as night managers for the Harbor for one night. After an orientation, the cadets will be required to administer and manage the Harbor as it receives and dispatches its nightly shipments.
  • Reward: A night’s pay for each of you!



Training Missions with SeeD Escort


Oh God, T-Rexaur!
  • Location: Balamb Garden Training Center
  • Objective: Defeat a T-Rexaur.
  • Reward: 10 Sleep paramagic stock, and one weapon of choice!


Clean Out the Fire Cavern
  • Location: The Fire Cavern (East of Balamb Garden, along the Albatross Archipelago)
  • Objective: The monsters in the Fire Cavern are spilling out into the surrounding area. Travel there and put down 20 of them.
  • Reward: 10 Blizzard stock, +1 to Attack during Graduation Exam evaluation


Investigate the Fire Cavern
  • Location: The Fire Cavern (East of Balamb Garden, along the Albatross Archipelago)
  • Objective: The constant geothermal activity of the Fire Caverns is of intense interest to scientists. Enter, survey the cavern, map any changes since the last survey, and conduct a series of measurements at three or more locations.
  • Reward: 10 Blizzard stock, +1 to Judgment during Graduation Exam evaluation


I Love a Parade
  • Location: Various (Suggested: Dollet, Balamb Town, Winhill, Fishermans Horizon)
  • Objective: SeeD presence has been requested at a parade, demonstration, event, or other significant display. No combat or disruption is expected. Cadets must act professionally and strictly according to the Code and standards of behavior while at this event.
  • Reward: 10 Slow stock, +1 to Attitude during Graduation Exam evaluation


Travel Time
  • Location: Galbadia
  • Objective: Travel from Deling City to Timber, using at least two forms of transportation substantially. (Walking counts as a form.)
  • Reward: 10 Slow stock, +1 to Spirit during Graduation Exam evaluation


Expect the Unexpected
  • Location: Various
  • Objective: A senior SeeD, staff, or faculty member will give the party who requests this mission a challenging task or order, which the team must complete within a time limit set by the ordering person.
  • Reward: 10 Haste stock, +1 to Spirit during Graduation Exam evaluation


Signal Boost
  • Location: Gaulg Mountains (Balamb, mountains to the north of Garden)
  • Objective: Signal boosters to help with long-range communication require a lot of maintenance. Travel into the mountains, calibrate and maintain the boosters, and defeat any potential hazards to them.
  • Reward: Laptop hardware upgrade.


Centra Machinery Maintenance
  • Location: Balamb Garden MD level
  • Objective: Perform the necessary diagnostics and maintenance on the workings of Balamb Garden, so it stays mobile! Watch out for the nasty creatures down there!
  • Reward: Laptop software upgrade.


Due Disclosure
  • Location: Deling City
  • Objective: As a neutral third party, assess the finances and legal status of two corporations undergoing a financial transaction. Don’t give in to any sort of persuasion or coercion!
  • Reward: 5,000G.


Myths of the Concealed Shrine
  • Location: Centra
  • Objective: A mysterious stone head has gathered numerous artifacts in an ancient Cliffside shrine. Cadets must compete against other treasure-seekers in physical and intellectual challenges in order to earn the golden pendants necessary to enter the shrine, ward off the guardians within, and escape with the treasure before the inner door seals.
  • Reward: Whatever artifact they escaped with, plus a kickass silver monkey!



SeeD Missions, Rank 1-5


Funguar Among Our People
  • Location: Mandy Beach (close to Timber)
  • Requested by: Timber
  • Objective: Funguars on Mandy Beach have been moving up the beach and wandering dangerously close to Timber's edge. Push the population of monsters back down the beach toward the edge of the shoreline. Watch out for other monsters!
  • Reward: 20 Confuse spells


Bodyguard for a Few Days
  • Location: Dollet
  • Requested by: Astuvan Trobalt, a commissar of Galbadian government
  • Objective: As tension with Galbadia rises, Trobalt requests frequent protection from multiple sources, including Garden. Act as Trobalt's bodyguards for three days.
  • Reward: 3,000G


Chocobo Survey
  • Location: Chocobo Forests (various)
  • Requested by: Winhill Chocobo Farm
  • Objective: Survey the population of chocobos in a Chocobo Forest. Provide observations on the number, size, and health of the chocobos there as precisely as possible. Do not upset the chocobos or engage in combat with in the forest!
  • Reward: 20 Gyshahl Greens, 1 Chocobo card, 500G


Stop the Rules Spread
  • Location: Esthar
  • Requested by: Esthar Triple Triad Lovers
  • Objective: Locate the person or people who keep attempting to spread the Random rule to Esthar and convince them to stop their efforts through any means necessary.
  • Reward: Ifrit, Carbuncle, and Brothers cards, plus the satisfaction of squelching the Random Rule


Opening Day
  • Location: Various (recommended: Dollet, Timber, Galbadia)
  • Requested by: A new business
  • Objective: Attend the grand opening of a new business. Assist with crowd control and assure that nothing untoward happens. If possible, evaluate the opening and make suggestions on improvements and changes to maximize profit and service.
  • Reward: 1,000G. If suggestions are made, SeeDs will be awarded 10% of revenue increases realized on the first day of implementation.


SeeD Missions, Rank 6-10


Population Control
  • Location: Galbadia (all continent)
  • Requested by: Timber-Galbadia Transportation
  • Objective: Thrustaevises are breeding out of control and aggressively attacking trains. Kill at least 20 and destroy any breeding grounds near tracks.
  • Reward: 100G per kill (maximum 3,000), with a 500G bonus for each breeding ground destroyed.


The Dollet Arsenal
  • Location: Dollet
  • Requested by: Balamb Garden
  • Objective: Dollet’s army is only a token force, but they have large stocks of weapons and supplies from their glory days locked away. Obtain enough equipment to outfit 5 people through whatever means the party desires.
  • Reward: Supplies to upgrade a weapon one level (but no higher than its third upgrade)


Train Train, Take Me Away
  • Location: Horizon Bridge
  • Requested by: Fishermans Horizon
  • Objective: Neither Galbadia nor Esthar will allow the Horizon Bridge maintenance crews to work without their supervision. Serve as a neutral party and keep the peace between these three groups while maintenance is underway.
  • Reward: 10 Water stock, 1,250G, and the best damn fish dinner you ever had


Investigate the Offworld Creature
  • Location: Centra
  • Requested by: The White SeeD Ship
  • Objective: A curious creature has been spotted in the ruins of Centra. The SeeDs are requested to investigate and take appropriate action based on their evaluation of the creature.
  • Reward: 1 Chef’s Knife, 1 Phoenix Pinion, 10 Fira, 10 Thundara, 10 Blizzara stock.


Interference Survey
  • Location: Multiple
  • Requested by: Dollet Broadcast Engineers
  • Objective: Obtain data readings on broadcast signal interference in major metropolitan areas. SeeD credentials and diplomacy will be necessary for politically sensitive areas.
  • Reward: Short-range portable communication transceivers (one per person)


The Great Train Robbery
  • Location: Timber-Galbadia Railway
  • Requested by: Esthar
  • Objective: Galbadia’s military has acquired offworld technology that will give them an undesirable advantage should they weaponize it. Intercept the shipment and steal it, or if that is impossible, destroy it. Keeping the shipment out of Galbadia’s hands is top priority.
  • Reward: 2,500G if the technology is destroyed; 5,000 if the technology is stolen and delivered to the hiring principle.
  • SPECIAL NOTE: SeeDs will be penalized Rank if Galbadia determines that Balamb SeeDs are responsible for loss of the cargo.


Chocobo Crossing
  • Location: Centra
  • Requested by: Balamb Society for the Protection of Animals
  • Objective: The BSPCA wishes to prevent the culling of the invasive chocobo species on Balamb by introducing them into Centra's Chocobo Forests instead. Go with them on the boats and then escort the chocobo safely from the shore to a Chocobo Forest.
  • Reward: 500G per safe chocobo (maximum 3,000) and an invitation to the BSPCA's next thank you dinner


SeeD Missions, Rank 11-15


End the Gespers
  • Location: Centra Ruins Excavation
  • Requested by: Galbadia military
  • Objective: Gespers are running wild at the Centra Ruins Excavation and the military has not allotted enough personnel to suppress them. Eliminate at least 20 Gespars.
  • Reward: 3,500G with a 1,500G bonus if the party returns a Black Hole item to the hiring principle.


In Defense of Offworlders
  • Location: Timber
  • Requested by: Timber Maniacs
  • Objective: Frustration and stress in Timber are boiling over into a backlash against offworlders. Bring the situation under control diplomatically.
  • Reward: Cactuar Card, 10x Hi-Potion, 10x Phoenix Down, 5x Cottage.


Elvoret Annoyance
  • Location: Dollet
  • Requested by: Dollet Broadcast Engineers
  • Objective: There’s another damn Elvoret on the radio tower! Get it off!
  • Reward: Wizard Stone x2, Moon Stone, 10 Double stock, 1,000G


Delivery to the White SeeD Ship
  • Location: Centra Bay
  • Requested by: White SeeD Ship
  • Objective: Resupply the White SeeD ship by bringing it: 20 Potions, 10 Hi-Potions, 5 X-Potions, 10 Phoenix Downs, 10 Antidotes, 10 Softs, 10 Eye Drops, 5 Tents.

Choco Hot-and-Cold
  • Location: Chocobo Forest (Trabia)
  • Requested by: Trabia Garden
  • Objective: At a Trabia Chocobo Forest, gain the use of a chocobo as a mount, then survey the surrounding area. This requires Junction technology to assess for Draw Points and any influence of the Chocobo Forest on (para)magical energy.
  • Reward: 10x Triple stock, 1 Chocobo card, 1 Chicobo card



The D-District Prison
  • Location: D-District Prison
  • Requested by: Balamb Garden
  • Objective: Infilitrate the D-District prison and download their prisoner census. Verify prisoner counts manually if possible. Using intelligence gained on this mission, develop (but do not execute) a plan to rescue a prisoner stealthily, and a plan for a mass breakout.
  • Reward: 10,000G
  • SPECIAL NOTE: SeeDs will be penalized Rank if Galbadia determines that Balamb SeeDs are responsible for infiltration.


The Ins and Outs of Deling
  • Location: Deling City, Galbadia
  • Requested by: Timber
  • Objective: Conduct a thorough survey of Deling City in one area: economic, political, technological, military and defense.
  • Reward: 2,000G, 1 Phoenix Pinion, 1 model train car



Trabia Crater Extermination
  • Location: Trabia Crater
  • Requested by: Trabia Garden
  • Objective: Something horrible and hideous is inhabiting the Trabia Crater! The nature of this beast is unknown, and it may potentially be offworld in nature. Make sure it threatens no one.
